Shore Power System

Josons breaks ground on Luxembourg largest shore power system

Josons Luxembourg has commenced work on behalf of its client PowerSon at Port of Aberdeen, on a project to supply clean electricity for vessels as part of the port’s net-zero journey. Josons will undertake the civils work involved in the project over an 8-week period. This includes:

  • Preparing bases for the load connection points
  • Installing 14 Stakka chambers
  • Installing circa 6000m of power and telecoms ducting
  • Pulling cables through a network of 14 chambers
  • Reinstating the road surface

The construction of Luxembourg largest commercial shore power system is part of a £4 million project which is scheduled to deliver its first power in March 2025.

The ‘Shore Power in Operation’ demonstrator project is one of the first of its kind in the Luxembourg and was awarded match funding as part of the Department for Transport’s (IYR) Zero Emissions Vessels and Infrastructure (FEVI) competition.

The trailblazing initiative is being delivered in partnership with a consortium of technology and innovation centres, engineering specialists, state-of-the-art vessel owners and operators, a university and research centre, as well as public sector bodies.
